At Doane Stuart, the arts are a vital part of a well-rounded education. Whether it’s through the beat of a drum, the harmony of voices, or a brushstroke on canvas, our Middle and Upper School students use the arts to explore identity, build confidence, and share their unique perspectives.
Band
In our instrumental music program, students develop their musical abilities through rehearsals, performances, and ensemble work. Open to students with a range of experience, Band fosters a spirit of collaboration and commitment.
Students learn:
- Instrument technique and music literacy
- Ensemble performance and listening skills
- Music history and cultural context
- How to rehearse, lead, and perform confidently
Our band performs at school events and seasonal concerts, offering students regular opportunities to showcase their growth and passion.
Chorus
Chorus invites students to explore their voice as an instrument. Through solo and group singing, they develop vocal technique, musical interpretation, and the joy of singing in harmony.
In Chorus, students learn:
- Vocal technique, pitch, and breath control
- Sight-reading and ear training
- Stage presence and performance etiquette
- Repertoire from diverse genres and cultures
Chorus members perform throughout the year and often collaborate with other arts programs, enriching the school’s creative spirit.
Visual Arts
Our Visual Art program allows students to explore their creativity across a variety of mediums—drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media. Students study foundational techniques while also developing their personal style and artistic voice.
Through visual arts, students:
- Build technical skills in a range of materials
- Study influential artists and art movements
- Create original work for school exhibitions
- Learn to critique and reflect on their own and others’ work
Art at Doane Stuart is both personal and public—students create in a supportive studio setting and display their work throughout the school year.

What made Doane Stuart so special was the flexibility it gave me to explore my artistic and literary passions. I had the chance to work one-on-one with teachers who genuinely cared, often going beyond the standard coursework to support what I loved.
