Personalized Learning
Empowering Every Student’s Unique Journey
At Doane Stuart School, personalized learning isn’t a program—it’s a philosophy. From Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12, we center our approach around the individual student. We recognize that every child learns differently, so we meet them where they are—and challenge them to grow into who they’re meant to become.
What Personalized Learning Looks Like
Across all divisions—Early Childhood, Middle School (Grades 5–8), and Upper School (Grades 9–12)—students are given the tools, support, and space to take ownership of their education. With an 8:1 student-to-teacher ratio, our teachers know their students deeply. This allows for:
- Individualized instruction based on interests, learning styles, and goals
- Flexible coursework that adapts year to year to meet student needs
- Independent studies and student-driven projects
- One-on-one mentorship and regular academic advising
- A focus on reflection, self-direction, and personal growth
Why It Matters
When students are active participants in their education, they become more motivated, engaged, and confident. At Doane Stuart, personalized learning is how we nurture thinkers, doers, and leaders who are prepared to thrive in an ever-changing world.
PreK and Early Childhood
A Foundation for Curiosity
Even our youngest learners experience a personalized approach. In PreK, children are guided through play-based and inquiry-driven learning tailored to their developmental stages and interests. They begin building confidence, communication skills, and the habits of lifelong learners.
Middle School
Exploring Identity and Independence
In Grades 5–8, students engage in project-based learning, team collaboration, and interdisciplinary exploration. Our small class sizes allow teachers to personalize feedback and adjust instruction, helping each student build academic and emotional confidence during this critical developmental stage.
Upper School
Designing Your Path
In Grades 9–12, personalized learning takes on new depth. Students design independent projects, select from a rotating menu of seminars, and pursue academic interests that may change year to year. With guidance from faculty mentors, they dig deep into topics that matter to them—preparing not just for college, but for lives of curiosity, compassion, and impact.
No two students have the same experience at Doane Stuart—and that’s by design.
