Core Values
What We Believe, How We Live
At Doane Stuart, our core values are more than words on a page—they guide how we teach, how we learn, and how we treat one another. Rooted in a long tradition of academic excellence, interfaith understanding, and service, our values shape students into compassionate leaders, critical thinkers, and engaged citizens.
Our Mission
“The mission of the Doane Stuart School is to provide an unparalleled college preparatory education for students from all backgrounds and faiths, where the joy of discovery is instilled, social responsibility is fostered, personal confidence is developed, and students are challenged and nurtured to be their best.”
This mission inspires every aspect of life at Doane Stuart—from academics and the arts to service and student life.
Interfaith Identity
We are proudly interfaith and inclusive. That means students of all religious and non-religious backgrounds are welcomed, celebrated, and invited into thoughtful conversations.
We don’t teach what to believe—we encourage students to explore their own values, learn about others, and grow in understanding and empathy.
- Weekly community meetings bring students together to connect, share, and learn from each other
- Religious studies explore world faiths and global perspectives
- We foster curiosity, not conformity, while honoring all beliefs and perspectives
Joy of Discovery
Learning at Doane Stuart is active, challenging, and joyful. Our students are encouraged to ask questions, take risks, and see learning as a lifelong journey—not just something that happens in the classroom.
- Hands-on experiences like internships, research, travel, and art
- A curriculum built around inquiry, reflection, and real-world connections
- Faculty who are passionate, accessible, and student-focused
Social Responsibility
We believe every student has the power to make a difference. That’s why service is built into our culture, not just added on.
- Over 5,000 student service hours each year
- Ongoing partnerships with local nonprofits
- Leadership programs that foster integrity, initiative, and empathy
A Place to Grow Mind and Heart
We believe that preparing for college and life is about more than academics. We nurture the whole student—mind, body, and spirit—so they can leave Doane Stuart ready to lead lives of purpose, courage, and compassion.
A Living Set of Values
Our values are not static. We revisit and reflect on them as a community through student-led discussions, interfaith gatherings, service learning, and school traditions. Every member of the Doane Stuart family helps bring them to life.
