Doane Stuart Mourns the Loss of a Good Friend and Teacher

Staff (21)

“A friend may well be reckoned the masterpiece of nature.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

On Wednesday, December 9, the Doane Stuart community experienced a sudden and tragic loss.  Tom Febrey, Upper School Spanish teacher and modified basketball coach, suffered a heart attack in the early morning on Tuesday.  Despite careful and excellent medical attention, Mr. Febrey died during surgery on Wednesday.

Today, the Middle and Upper School gathered in remembrance.  Head of School Pam Clarke discussed friendship and quoted Ralph Waldo Emerson.  Larry Yakubowski shared a prayer in honor of his good friend, and Joe Hetko, Seamus Hodgkinson and Nat Corwin all told stories and shared fond memories of a man who was very dear to the Doane Stuart community.

The funeral service will be held in Webster, NY on Monday, December 14 at 10:30am.  A gathering at Doane Stuart will be planned for January.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Sonjia Febrey and her family.
